Dear Mrs. Kahle,

I am a teacher at Lucerne Valley Adult School in Lucerne Valley. I teach computer-based business courses and job skills training to community members and students in the CalWORKS program. I contacted your school on January 4, 2001 to obtain information about courses offered through your program that may be of interest to my students. When I contacted your office I spoke to Mr. Ira Chance.

The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention the inconsiderate and unprofessional way Mr. Chance assisted me on the telephone. I teach telephone etiquette as a component of the training I give to my students and I feel Mr. Chance provided a deplorable example of professionalism and courtesy. Mr. Chance could not give me any information about your programs and when I asked him to connect me with someone who could assist me, he said he was getting ready to leave for the day and instructed me to call back tomorrow. I informed him that I ran a similar training program in Lucerne Valley and it was imperative that I speak with someone in charge of the program there. Mr. Chance informed me that you were out shopping and could not be reached until tomorrow morning. Before I could question him further, he hung up on me.

I was looking to arrange a cooperative agreement between our sites. I had been told that you offer different training programs than our school and I thought we could work together to provide better training for our community. Upon reviewing the unprofessional manner in which Mr. Chance addressed my call, my administrator and I are unsure if we would like to be affiliated with your institution. I would appreciate your response to this issue and request that you inform Mr. Chance of the importance of treating people with courtesy and respect when they call your institution.
