Short DIRECTED DISCOVERY on "drawing a rectangle" (5 minutes total time).

The STUDENT PERFORMANCE Objective - (BTEOLSWBAT):

                        Condition: Given a computer with Microsoft Word software

                        Person: each student …

                        Performance: will draw a red rectangle with blue outline and shadow

                        Criteria: correctly.

 

The EQUIPMENT and MATERIALS required for the lesson:

* HANDOUT – showing the step-by-step process to draw a rectangle.

* COMPUTER MONITOR – to demonstrate the completed rectangle.

* LAB COMPUTERS – for students to access and change the document.

* MICROSOFT WORD PROGRAM – with draw toolbar on to access draw features.

How INSTRUCTOR will FACILITATE student learning:

                        Introduction – Anticipatory Set (60 seconds)

* Statement of the objective

* Instructor shows completed rectangle on monitor.

* Tie in the importance of using a step-by step procedure

 

Instruction – Key Concepts (120 seconds)

* Distribute handout to all students.

* Read step one on the handout and direct students to DO the step.

* Read the remaining steps and direct the students to DO the steps.

 

Guided and Independent Practice (30 seconds)

* Actual guided student practice as indicated above.

 

Checking for Understanding and Clarification (30 seconds)

* Observe what students do and correct/reinforce as needed.

* Ask individual students about a specific step on the handout.

 

Conclusion – Closure (30 seconds)

                        * Reemphasize importance following the step-by-step procedures.

                        * Encourage students to use the handout as a guide.

 

            How the students will be EVALUATED

 

Through a performance test in which each student will be given a set of step-by-step instructions and a computer with Microsoft Word software.  Students will be asked to show the instructor that they can follow the steps to correctly draw a red rectangle with blue outline and shadow.
